NPTA – Frequently Asked Questions
NPTA certification is aligned with federal animal transport standards established by USDA APHIS under the Animal Welfare Act.
While NPTA is not a regulatory body, we use these standards as a foundation for safe and professional transport practices.

Yes, USDA and the Animal Welfare Act are the federal entities that all registered transporters work under.
Transporters complete a short onboarding form, submit insurance and ID, and pass a certification test based on the NPTA handbook. Fast-track and express options are available for experienced drivers.
Certified members receive a digital certification, listing in the NPTA database, and official certification stickers.
Members also gain access to industry updates, with future access to tool kits.
An optional welcome packet (physical or digital) is available.
The test is given online through ClassMarker. It is multiple choice and is password protected. There are Air transport and Ground transport cert tests. The Air and Ground transporter certification test covers all areas. The test question banks and the study guides will be updated as new regulations and laws are passed.
Currently, there is a "Founder's discount" for the first 20 members.

All certification fees are non-refundable once payment is submitted as digital materials are made available and test access are provided. By purchasing, you acknowledge and agree to this policy.
Payment link accepts Credit and Debit cards.
Each certified transporter has a unique public-facing profile that may include their name, photo, and company name.

Requesting verification through NPTA Email
Click on "Get Certified" link. There, you enter your information to receive a study guide and disclaimer form. Once all is received and verified, you be sent a payment link. Also, you can email info@nptaus.net to request a digital certification packet. You’ll be guided through onboarding, testing, and activation.
Violations of the Code of Conduct may lead to suspension or revocation of certification. Serious issues and ongoing violations are reviewed by a board of peers for fairness and transparency. They will decide to suspend or revoke certification if needed to uphold safety and ethical standards.
Yes. Certification belongs to the transporter, not the business. You may work under multiple transport brands while certified.
